What is going to happen to me when I die?
“Amen, Amen, I tell you: A time is coming and is here now when the dead will hear the voice of the Son of God, and those who listen will live. John 5:25
Is there life after I die?
Who can give me an answer to this question? Can I trust or believe the one who gives me the answers?
My dear friends, I know someone who has the answers. You can trust and believe him. As a Christian you know him as Jesus, our Savior. What Jesus says in the words from John 5:25 are true and trustworthy.
When Jesus begins with the words, “Amen, Amen, I tell you:” or as another translation says; “Very truly I tell you”, Jesus is emphasizing that what he is saying is true. Believe him because it is of utmost importance to your eternal welfare. He wants you to listen very, very carefully. What Jesus is saying is very important. He answers the questions.
Jesus assures you as a believer that when you die you will live with him forever in heaven. Believers listen and believe what they are told in God’s Word about Jesus. The believer knows who Jesus is, why he had to come into this world and be both God and man in one person; why he had to suffer and die in our place.
You can trust him because he rose from the grave and ascended to heaven sitting on the right hand of God our Father, interceding for us.
If you are wondering why Jesus had to do all that, and why do you need to listen to him, just look in the mirror. You see a sinful person. A person who sins in thoughts, words and deeds. A person who could never get to heaven with their own efforts.
That is why we call Jesus, our Savior.
The best advice I can give you is to listen to Jesus. Listen to the voice of the Son of God. Listen carefully to the promise Jesus makes to you; and those who listen will live.
Our Prayer: God’s Word is our great heritage, And shall be ours forever; To spread its light from age to age. Shall be our chief endeavor. Through life it guides our way; In death it is our stay. Lord, grant, while worlds endure, We keep its teachings pure, Throughout all generations. Amen. (CW #640)
