Why ME, Lord?!

Rev. Ed Fredrich November 16, 2025

It will turn out to be your opportunity to testify. Luke 21:13

In Luke 21 Jesus was telling the disciples what was in store in the future. Jesus told them, “Nation will rise against nation, and kingdom against kingdom. 11 There will be great earthquakes, famines, and plagues in various places. There will be horrifying sights and great signs from heaven. 12 But before all these things, they will lay their hands on you and will persecute you, handing you over to synagogues and prisons, bringing you before kings and governors for my name’s sake.” (Luke 21:10-12)

That is why I chose the title, Why ME, Lord! God’s ways are not our ways. We think everything should be perfect and life smooth. We need to remember that the prince of this world, the devil, is opposed to God and his kingdom. United with him are the kingdoms of this world. As a result the followers of Jesus face the same treatment that Jesus endured.

When we face persecutions and hardships we can trust the Lord. Jesus gives us the reason for it. “It will be your opportunity to testify.”

Jesus also encourages, “So make up your minds not to prepare beforehand how to defend yourselves, 15 for I will give you words and wisdom that none of your adversaries will be able to withstand or contradict. 16 You will be betrayed even by parents, brothers, relatives, and friends. They will put some of you to death. 17 You will be hated by all people for my name’s sake. 18 But not a hair of your head will perish. 19 By patient endurance you will gain your lives.” (Luke 21:14-19)

Lord Jesus, thanks for making us your own. Enable us to trust that you know what you are doing in our lives. Enable us to be faithful witnesses. Amen.
