Shannon ARRM nommniteeBelle Plaine, MN (July 10, 2019) –  Hope Residence is proud to honor Shannon Johnson as nominee for the ARRM Cares Award, an annual award program which recognizes the top Direct Support Professionals in Minnesota.

Direct Support Professional (DSP) is a term for team members who deliver a wide array of services and supports in the home and community settings to people with intellectual and developmental disabilities.

Johnson has served as DSP at Hope for nearly four years. During her tenure, she connected with several residents building friendships and became a resource for residents.

“I am honored to be nominated and receive this recognition. This is the most rewarding job,” explained Johnson. “While working, I enjoy getting to build relationships with the residents.”

Johnson is incredibly passionate about her work. She has a skill for connecting with the people she supports, and earning their trust and respect to the point where they feel comfortable sharing their personal life with her.

“She is consistently finding creative and person-center ways to make opportunities for Hope residents to fulfill their dreams and passions while delivering a greater quality of life, which is what our field is all about,” said Rhonda Walsh, Program Manager at Hope Residence.

In a short ceremony held on July 10, Johnson was honored for her nomination. Chris Meyer, Executive Vice President and Chief Financial/Business Officer of The Lutheran Home Association and mayor of Belle Plaine, thanked Johnson for her service to the ministry of Hope and the Belle Plaine community.

“Because of the populations they work with and the intensity of their responsibilities, a DSP requires a high level of professionalism, skill, training and compassion, a combination which is very difficult to find and hold onto to,” said Sue Schettle, CEO of ARRM. “We are honored to pull back the curtain and recognize Shannon for her tremendous skill, dedication and impact.”

Johnson, along with all other 2019 award nominees, was recognized at the ARRM Annual Conference during the awards ceremony held in June.
