TLHA Recognizes Direct Support Professionals Week

Hope Residence September 8, 2019

The Lutheran Home Association (TLHA) would like to honor our Direct Support Professionals (DSPs) at Hope Residence in Belle Plaine, Minn. during Direct Support Professionals Week, Sept. 8-14, 2019. Direct Support Professionals Week recognizes the contributions DSPs make for individual residents, disability housing facilities and communities.

DSP week“I’m proud of our team at Hope Residence. When I come into work each day, my heart is warmed by the love, kindness, and patience exuded by our team in their care of the residents,” said Debra Wilbright, Regional Director of Disability Services. “We are lucky to have team members who live out the mission of The Lutheran Home Association.”

DSPs assist individuals with disabilities in leading a self-directed life and contributing to the community. This includes helping with activities of daily living, encouraging attitudes and behaviors, teaching residents to be more independent, taking residents out in the community or to a medical appointment, and assisting with meals, transfers, therapy exercises and daily cares.

“The employees at Hope Residence are some of the kindest, most caring and capable people I have ever met. The work they do every day is for the good of the people supported to make the quality of their lives better,” said Mary Jo Schrempp, guardian of a resident at Hope Residence. “God blessed Hope Residence with employees, who on a daily basis give loving and supportive care to all these individuals. I cannot thank you enough for all you do.”

IMG_0750“There are a number of DSPs that put their heart and soul into the services they provide to the persons living at Hope Residence,” said Patricia Gray, Scott County Social Worker. “My personal experience testifies to the dedication it takes to be a DSP. A great DSP is a jack- of-all- trades and says “Yes, I can do that” when asked to complete the task that may not exactly fit into their job description. “

“Our DSPs are the backbone to Hope providing quality of life enhancing services to our residents.  Their duties vary day to day and they often wear many hats,” said Kayla Jones, Human Resources and Recruitment Director at Hope. “Our DSP’s are committed, flexible and willing to take on whatever additional responsibilities come their way.  They care not because it is their job but because that’s just who they are.”

Thank you to all the DSPs for their dedication to Hope Residence and wish them a happy National Direct Support Professionals Week! They are appreciated and truly make a difference in the lives of everyone who call Hope their home.
