TLHA joins the National #GivingTuesday Movement

Marketing November 27, 2013

BELLE PLAINE, MINN. – November 27, 2013 – The Lutheran Home Association (TLHA) has joined #GivingTuesday, a social media movement designed to foster collective action for social good on the first Tuesday after Thanksgiving, December 3. Coinciding with the Thanksgiving holiday and the kickoff of the holiday shopping season, #GivingTuesday will inspire people to take action together to improve their local communities.

“GivingTuesday is a way to kick off the giving season and help others,” said Michael Klatt, president and CEO of The Lutheran Home Association. “It’s an opportunity to give to organizations in need, by coming together to give. There’s no better way to start off the Christmas season than by helping others and GivingTuesday is the perfect way for us all to come together.”

#GivingTuesday was first organized in 2012 by a group of friends and partners, led by 92nd Street Y, a nonprofit community and culture center inNew York City. The grassroots concept – to bring the charitable community together to promote and celebrate the tradition of giving – quickly gained momentum. In its first year, the collective efforts of partners, donors and advocates helped fuel a marked increase in charitable giving.

“GivingTuesday is a counter narrative to Black Friday and Cyber Monday because it reminds us that the spirit of the holiday season should be about community and not just consumerism,” said Kathy Calvin, CEO of the UN Foundation. “The most meaningful gift we can give to our children, loved ones, friends and neighbors is the commitment to work together to help build a better world.”

Those who are interested in joining TLHA’s #GivingTuesday initiative on Tuesday, December 3, can donate online or text GIVE TLHA to 84465 to donate $10 to TLHA. Terms: mGive.org/T.
