The Lutheran Home Association Responds to Urgent COVID-19 Need, Joining #GivingTuesdayNow in Global Day of Giving and Unity

BELLE PLAINE, MINN. April 21, 2020 — The Lutheran Home Association (TLHA), a national nonprofit health care and disability ministry, is responding to meet the need to provide physical and spiritual care to the residents across our ministry.

#GivingTuesdayNow is a global day of giving and unity, set to take place on May 5, 2020, as an emergency response to the unprecedented need that COVID-19 has caused. The day is designed to drive an influx of generosity, citizen engagement, business and philanthropy activation, and support for communities and nonprofits around the world.

“Our caregivers and chaplains are working tirelessly to care for the country’s most at risk,” said Mark Hayes, president of ministry at TLHA. “While we are ‘safer at home,’ our team members will tell you that they are at home with our residents. Prior to COVID-19, these individuals and residents became family. They are doing their jobs that they love. They care for our residents’ physical needs as well as their emotional and spiritual needs. Your support, whether it’s financial, prayers, or ‘see you soon’ videos shared on Facebook, mean more than we tell you.”

Our world has changed dramatically over the past month. But one thing that hasn’t changed is the essential physical and spiritual care being provided through our chaplains and caregivers. The global movement will emphasize opportunities to give back to communities and causes in safe ways that allow for social connection even while practicing physical distancing.

Following all new United States Centers for Disease Control and Prevention guidelines and measures, TLHA’s chaplaincy and care giving programs continue to provide life-giving support to residents in their homes through one-on-one meetings and activities during the coronavirus outbreak. They’re bringing hope where few can.

This is an opportunity to financially help to ensure that our front-line workers are resourced and ready to meet the physical and spiritual needs of our residents during this uncertain time.

“As a global community, we can mourn this moment of extreme crisis while also finding the opportunity to support one another,” said Asha Curran, chief executive officer of GivingTuesday. “#GivingTuesdayNow is a chance for us to stand united and to use grassroots generosity to show that we are all in this together, from beginning to end. Even as many face financial uncertainty, generosity is not about size. We all have something to give, and every act of human consideration and kindness matters.”

Join TLHA’s #GivingTuesdayNow efforts financially, or share a message on TLHA’s Facebook page for our caregivers and chaplains.
