Always in a Position to Care

When Savannah Kirsch-Swanson started working at Hope Residence nearly five years ago, she was told by a Human Resources team member that the residents become like family.
“Within a week, each of the residents filled a special place in my heart,” explained Savannah. “Now, I’m here all of the time, and that team member was right—this is my second family.”
Working at Hope was Savannah’s first job when she was a senior in high school. She was hoping to save money for college. She began working as a Direct Support Professional (DSP) providing care and support to residents. Through the years, Savannah was promoted and continued her education to become both a Trained Medication Aide and a Certified Nursing Assistant. In December 2017, she became a Preceptor, providing training to ensure new DSP’s receive the training and skills necessary to take care of residents and be prepared for their job.
Most recently, Savannah was named an Evening Supervisor at Hope. In this position, she splits her time between working with other DSPs caring for residents and fulfilling her administrative tasks.

“She is a tremendous asset to the management team and is flexible and always willing to help in whatever area is needed,” explained Debra Wilbright, Regional Director of Disability Services. “Her co-workers respect her and know she is always there to help. She makes sure our residents are looking their best and are happily engaged in enjoying life at Hope.”
This is a new and mutually beneficial position for Savannah and the team at Hope.
“I really enjoy this role because it allows me to do both administrative work and what I’m used to doing—direct care,” shared Savannah. “If you had told me when I started that I’d still be here in five years and I’d have my own desk, I definitely wouldn’t have believed you. I love still working closely with the residents. I don’t think anyone can ever stop being a DSP.”
Our team members who work during the evening benefit from a wage differential. With a variety of career paths available, we are always looking for caring and compassionate people to join our team. Discover the career opportunities at tlha.org.
