Blessed to call Fountain City home

St. Michael’s Assisted Living March 29, 2022

Thanks to St. Michael’s Assisted Living, Ken Haeuser can continue to live in the Fountain City community he has always called home. Ken grew up on his family’s dairy farm located four miles from St. Michael’s. His father was called to Heaven when Ken was 13, and he and his mother ran the farm together until she was able to hire help. The farm stayed in the family as Ken and his wife, Lois, took over the operations. Ken lived on the farm until he had to stay in the hospital following a shoulder injury, after which he made the move to St. Michael’s.

“To come to a place like this to get better has been a blessing,” Ken explained.

Family and friends often pass by the care community and stop in to visit.

“We love that our care community is here and ready to provide care to individuals who have lived here their entire lives,” said Tiffany Olson, Administrator at St. Michael’s. “The majority of our team members also live nearby. We understand the feeling of wanting to continue to call this area home.”

Ken’s sister, Betts, worked within the care community, serving as a direct caregiver before retiring in 2021 after more than 50 years of service.

“I just missed her,” said Ken, “But she’s been here to a few times to visit me, too.”

It’s more than just the location for Ken. Within the care community, he is able to receive physical therapy for his shoulder as it heals, enjoy the delicious food, and participate in activities.

“We play bingo, quite a bit. I never thought I would enjoy playing bingo,” he joked. “And yesterday we had music. It’s all been nice.”

St. Michael’s residents benefit from an array of services and amenities, including newly remodeled accommodations, nursing care and support, and more. To learn more, call Tiffany at (608) 468-6380.
