Receiving the Lord’s Supper for the First Time
Donald Burton is a member of Abiding Grace Lutheran Church in Covington, Ga. In 2011, he asked his pastor, Rev. Jonathan Scharf, to lead him in confirmation. His pastor used Jesus Cares Ministries (JCM) program materials designed for individuals with disabilities for his classes.
In fall 2014, Donald was confirmed by Pastor Scharf as part of a Worship at the Cross service led by Bill Truebenbach and Pastor Joel Gaertner, JCM staff. Donald confessed his faith in Jesus as his Savior and then joined the members of his family in receiving the Lord’s Supper for the first time.
“This was a very special and emotional day,” said Pastor Gaertner “It was a reminder of what Jesus Cares Ministries is all about—equipping
God’s people to share the gospel with those with special needs.”
