Team member receives strength from chaplain
Sharing Christ’s love extends not only to our residents but also to our team members. Team members hear our chaplains sharing devotions during staff meetings or as they help residents during worship.
A new team member at one of our care communities recently sat with a resident to help during a worship service.
As Pastor Kenley Mann continued the service, he shared a message focused on I Corinthians 8: 1-13.
“I mentioned that the use of alcohol is not forbidden by God. The use of alcohol falls under Christian freedom. I discussed times when Christian love would lead to a believer’s giving up his or her freedom to use alcohol,” explained Pastor Mann.
The team member visited with Pastor Mann following the services. She shared about a long-time friend who was now an alcoholic and was searching for advice about how best to help a friend who was recently arrested and was in jail.
Using Scripture as an example, Pastor Mann shared Jesus’s parable of The Younger Brother, who wasted his half of the inheritance that his father had given to him. The father did not chase after his son as he went to a distant country. Instead, it was when the son began to experience the toughest of conditions that he came to his senses.
“Together, we prayed for her to be strengthened to share God’s word with her friend,” said Pastor Mann. “And for the Lord to bring her friend to her senses through her tough conditions.”
God gives his Spirit every time we read his word. No matter the situation, God continues to give us strengthen.
“When team members or residents hear this message of grace, it reflects God’s love for them,” said Mark Hayes, president of ministry at The Lutheran Home Association (TLHA). “We pray that this message ignites an eternal hope in their hearts as they come to know Jesus as their Savior and friend.”
