Chelsey.jpgChelsey Skluzacek has been working at The Lutheran Home: Belle Plaine since June, but she has recently taken on a new role as Admissions Coordinator. In her position, she works with social workers from area hospitals to admit residents to skilled nursing.

Most often Chelsey works with potential rehab patients, who have recently had surgery and require rehab before returning to an assisted living facility or home.

She began as a Licensed Practical Nurse but was interested in the Admissions Coordinator position when it became available.

“After doing it for a few weeks, I ended up really enjoying it,” she explained, “Even though, I accepted the position full time, I still help out on the floor as a nurse.”

“Chelsey has excellent leadership traits that fit well within our team. She is eager to help wherever needed and is always ready to learn new things,” said Spencer Beard, Administrator.

While she performs similar job responsibilities each day, it can vary depending on the number of new admissions. With a new admission, she inputs orders including medication, physical therapy and occupational therapy orders.

Her favorite part of the role is being able to learn about the residents and being able to hear their stories.

“They can come from near or far and they all have a different story,” she said, “I love meeting the families and seeing their faces when they finally can feel relief that they have found a truly amazing place for their loved one to go.”
