Honoring Hope volunteers

Marketing August 1, 2017

Paul with ArchieIn observance of National Volunteer Recognition Week, Hope Residence volunteers were honored with a super-sized pizza during a luncheon held at KingsPath Senior Living

Volunteers assist with anything from providing musical entertainment, helping with Bible bingo, assisting with bringing residents to and from group activities, visiting with residents independently or playing games with residents.

“Our volunteers are thanked on a regular basis but it is fun to bring everyone together. It’s a great way to show our volunteers that their efforts are making a difference. We truly appreciate everything they do to help our residents,” said Deb Wirt, Therapeutic Recreation Coordinator at Hope.

Hope Residence always has opportunities for new volunteers to make an impact in the lives of our residents. Volunteer opportunities include the following:

  • Book Club Reader: Read a book or short stories to a small group of residents. Must be able to read clearly and be loud enough for residents to hear. After the reading, engage residents in discussion of the book or short story.
  • Gamer: Lead games with residents. This can be a small or medium size group. There are various games to choose from including table games, foosball, Wii, X-Box, bridge, Uno, checkers, cards, puzzles, shoot baskets and more.
  • Sensory Group Leader: Lead a small group of residents who have dementia or sensory impairments. Reminisce, provide sensory stimulation, go for a walk, give a manicure or pedicure, style hair, show large pictures, play nature sounds, enjoy the sensory room, look at photo albums or discuss gardening, cooking, fishing and other topics.
  • Crafter/Share a Talent: Lead a small or medium size group of residents in making a craft, cards, writing letters, painting and coloring. Bring in unique items to show residents.
  • Baker: Lead a small or medium size group of residents in a baking activity using our interactive kitchens. Discuss the recipe and assist the residents in preparing baked items.
  • Soft Melodies Musician: Play your musical instrument or sing for the residents. Play soft and calming music to promote a calming atmosphere.
  • Religious Leader: Assist a resident or residents with getting to church, read devotions or Bible verses and pray with them. Lead a small or medium size group of residents in a Bible class or Bible bingo.

Volunteers are always welcome to assist team members in facilitating a small or large group scheduled activity, party or event.
