“Stepping forward for Dementia” walk raises awareness
BELLE PLAINE, MN – August 7, 2017 – The cool morning and cloud covered sky was the perfect morning for a walk.
On Saturday, August 5, more than 90 people attended the “Stepping forward for Dementia” walk to raise awareness about dementia and those it affects. The walk was hosted by The Lutheran Home Belle Plaine campus which includes The Lutheran Home: Belle Plaine skilled nursing facility, Hope Residence, a disability housing facility and Kingsway Retirement Living.
Post walk activities included music by The Vine Garage Band, face painting and a balloon artist. All proceeds raised from the event will go towards memory care funding on the Belle Plaine Campus.

The Lutheran Home: Belle Plaine offers a Special Care Residence, especially designed to provide a higher level of care as Alzheimer’s or other dementias progress. Kingsway Retirement Living offers studio apartments in a safe and comforting environment where those with dementia can stay engaged with life. Our staff is provided with ongoing training opportunities throughout the year to meet the special needs and cares of individuals with dementia and Alzheimer’s disease. These opportunities include online training, onsite workshops, and other learning opportunities from leading health care organizations.
Event sponsors included the Belle Plaine Dementia Awareness Alliance, Reinhart Food Service and First Choice Pharmacy.

“The support received from local businesses and community members in Belle Plaine and the surrounding towns made the event a success,” said Karl Keup, administrator at Kingsway Retirement Living. “The ‘Stepping Forward Dementia” walk is one way our ministry is bringing awareness to memory loss. Thank you to everyone who supported the event.”
